Lumbee Tribe Boys and Girls Club Summer Camp Complete Baskets!

Congratulations to our first group of students from our Lumbee Tribe Boys and Girls Club Summer Camp to complete their gathering baskets. Lumbee Master Basket Weaver Cindy Locklear has worked with the students over the past week on the baskets.

This basket activity is a collaboration with the N.C. Museum of Art in Raleigh with Angela Lombardy. It’s called the NCMA Artist Innovation Mentorship Summer Program (AIM). This is one of the first groups of campers to participate in the seven week Basketry making program. It will continue through August. The AIM program is about introducing fun and innovative ways that you can make art while learning how to solve problems like an artist! These students are also creating pottery, artwork while also learning through STEM activities.
