This afternoon, Lumbee Tribal Chairman Lowery and our staff had an opportunity to wish Spencer Oxendine best of luck during his time at the U.S. Open next week in Pinehurst. Spencer qualified in the U.S. Open Qualifier on Monday, June 3rd at Duke Golf course. He is first alternate and shot 3 Under Par. Today he dropped by the Lumbee Tribe Housing Complex with his family to update his Lumbee Enrollment. Spencer went professional with his golfing career in May. He has played in a several tournaments already and will also participate in the Waterloo Open in Iowa in July.
Spencer grew up in Cumberland County and graduated last year from NC State with a business degree. He began playing golf at the age of 4 when his mother was teaching him and his brother. Spencer is the son of Mary Ellen and Hampton Oxendine and the grandson of Ruby and Paul Locklear and Henry Ward and Sandra Oxendine.
