Lumbee Elders Kick-Off fall with Gift of Sweet Potatoes

Our Lumbee Elders are getting a jump on the beginning of fall with a gift of sweet potatoes. The Lumbee Housing staff recently distributed sweet potatoes to seniors at the ten (10) Lumbee Tribe Housing developments across the four-county Tribal Territory. The potatoes were donated by a community group. Chairman John Lowery had an opportunity to speak with some of our elders while helping with the distribution. Sweet potatoes are a staple in many favorite Lumbee dishes including tarts, breads and just baked by themselves throughout the fall and winter.
