It was a blessing this week to see so many of our farm neighbors, community members and friends, but especially young people attend the 9th Annual American Indian Heritage Month Ag Celebration.
It was a blessing this week to see so many of our farm neighbors, community members and friends, but especially young people attend the 9th Annual American Indian Heritage Month Ag Celebration. This annual event celebrates Native Culture and stresses the importance of agriculture and the important roles of Native farmers throughout Robeson County. Ronald Hammonds, Lumbee farmer from the Saddletree Community, received an appreciation award for his contributions to local agriculture. The event also honored Mrs. Sybil Bullard in remembrance of her late husband and farmer Mr. Danny Bullard. High School FFA members attended from Purnell Swett High, Lumberton High and St. Pauls High Schools. Thank you to these young people for taking time to honor come out to meet and honor our farmers and assist in serving lunch. Members from USDA included Director Reginald Speights, USDA Tribal Liaison Pamela Sunshine Richardson. Also in attendance was members from USDA Rural Development, NRCS, Wildlife Conservation, Soil and Water Conservation.
