Coach Kelvin Sampson Recognized for Service to Community with Eagle Feather and Lumbee Warriors Pin

Congratulations to Houston Head Basketball Coach and Lumbee Tribal Member Kelvin Sampson, who was recognized today in his hometown of Pembroke. Coach Sampson was on the UNC Pembroke campus today as the Key Note Speaker for the UNC System Board of Governors luncheon meeting today. UNCP is hosting the Board of Governors on campus for their two-day meeting. This is the first time UNC Pembroke has hosted the meeting since 2013. UNC Pembroke Chancellor Robin Cummings presented Coach Sampson with a beaded Eagle Feather; "In recognition of his extraordinary and lasting impact as a mentor and role model for young men, his ardent belief in the power of education and his unwavering support of his hometown community, the Lumbee Tribe and The University of North Carolina at Pembroke."


Following the meeting, Coach Sampson took time to visit with students, staff and community members in the University Center. During that visit, the Lumbee Warriors Association presented Coach Sampson with a Lumbee Warriors Pin in recognition of his accomplishments and service.
