Heritage Haven Elders Present Quilt to Lumbee Tribe
Heritage Haven Elders presented their 86 x 93 inch quilt to Chairman Harvey Godwin Jr. on Tuesday. The quilt, which is titled Jacob’s Ladder, will be displayed for the month of August at the Lumbee Tribal Complex located at 6984 N.C. 711 in Pembroke.
This attractive quilt was hand stitched and crafted by all members of the Heritage Haven Elders Group located on Marion Stage Rd in Fairmont. The group meets every Tuesday at 9 a.m.
It takes approximately six weeks to make a quilt of this size. The quilt features unique square patterns that are accented with distinctive floral designs that allow the quilt to possess an individualistic and stylish presence.
Evelyn Jacobs and Martha Hardin expressed much pride in their group’s work and stated the importance of keeping their history and communal roots alive through the skilled process of quilting.
Anyone interested in viewing the artwork, may visit the Lumbee Tribe or call (910) 521-7861 for more information.
